Get a real pool! : 16' x 48" Intex Ultra Frame Set Pool Package

After owning two Intex Easy Set pools with a minimal number of problems, I decided to upgrade to a bigger "real pool" as my chidren refered to it as. After spending over $500 on this new pool(16' x 48" Ultra metal frame pool) the problems began piling up.
I wanted to do it right when it came to setting it up.....I ordered 2 yards of sand to make sure the pool was properly leveled. A day and a half was spent moving the sand from the street into my yard and leveling out the area where the pool was going to be set up.......that went smooth. My father and I who both had open-heart surgical operation 5 years ago, took our time and did it right(I'm 41 and my dad is 70).
After leveling the yard, it took about an hour to put the pool together, it was easy, my dad & I were happy. Then came the water.......about one and a half days to fill it. The water was green. Chlorine, chlorine, chlorine....no change....green, green, green.....shock & algicide, ran the filter for over 24 hours....still green & cloudy. Pool store guy said "shock it again, run the filter for 24 to 36 hours, and it should clear up!" he was wrong! Still had green, cloudy water! (This after any hundred $'s spent on chemicals!)
Finally, I broke down and spent about $400 on a new sand filter....shocked the pool again, ran the fitler overnight, and Bang! Clear, sparkling water! So now I'm into this pool for about $1500, the filter principles that comes with this pool is totally inadequate for the pool size!
So now, the kids are happy, I'm happy....we swim all day today, all things is great!
It gets dark, it's about 9:30 Pm.....I hear water running, a large number of water as if ther there is a huge hole in the pool. It's one of the water flow control valves(the one attached to the pool on the water return line from the filter), I check it, re-check it, only to survey that the seal is not holding water under pressure! I call Intex....they were as much help as talking to my dog who was standing in ankle deep water with me next to the pool. He seemed to enjoy it. I ordered new parts( that I had to pay for, plus two-day shipping), but there was still a huge leak. So now, in the dark, with my dog playing in the chlorinated mud next to me(as I said, he was loving it!) I had to take the filter intake water control valve and swap it with the return line from the filter.....this temporary fix seems to be Ok for the time being, althougH I lost about 6" of water in the pool................

the moral to this story? If you are going to use an Intex pool, the Easy Set semi blow-up pools are fine. If you are going to go bigger and better, spend the cash to have a real pool installed by a reputable local company! With the money I spent for the 16' x 48" Ultra metal frame Pool, the chemicals, the new filter, the sand, the exchange parts & even more chemicals, it would have only cost me about $600 more to get a potential "real pool" installed by proffesionals who would come out to fix the problems I had w/o any bulls**T!

Intex customer aid is terrible, the filter/pump combos that come with these pools are inadequate and the attachment parts are very cheaply made.......please, if you are going to get a "real pool", do not buy this pool, It Is Nothing But A headache And A Huge Money Pit!

If You Have Any Questions Don'T Call Intex!
